San Diego, CA (September 24, 2023) – Authorities say they have detained a motorist on suspicion of DUI after an incident on Interstate 8 that sent five minors to the hospital.
Around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, a man in his twenties was driving a green Ford Expedition on the Qualcomm Way on-ramp to Interstate 8, according to the California Highway Patrol. There were seven people in the Ford, five of whom were underage.
Authorities said a 3-year-old toddler was thrown from the Ford after it flipped for unknown reasons. The child suffered serious injuries and was sent to Rady Children’s Hospital.
The other four minors were taken to the hospital for treatment of their injuries as well. An investigation into the cause of the incident remains active in the interim.
