Moorpark, CA – Two Dead in Head-On Crash on SR-23 Fwy Near Los Angeles Ave

Moorpark, CA (March 1, 2026) – A head-on crash killed two people and left three others with major injuries on Saturday, February 28, along the 23 Freeway in Moorpark. The accident occurred around 2:05 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the freeway, near Los Angeles Avenue.

The California Highway Patrol said a 2007 Chevy Silverado 1500 was traveling southbound and entered the center median to pass traffic. Investigators reported that the driver lost control, went up an embankment, crossed the median guardrail, and entered the northbound lanes.

The truck then collided head-on with a 2013 Lexus ES350. The California Highway Patrol confirmed that a 22-year-old woman from Los Angeles, who was a passenger in the truck, and a 42-year-old woman from Granada Hills, who was driving the Lexus, died at the scene.

Three other people were taken to a nearby hospital with major injuries. Authorities conducted a field sobriety test on the truck’s driver and stated that impairment did not appear to be a factor. The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.

We extend our sincere condolences to the families of the two women who lost their lives in this tragic incident. We also wish those injured a full and swift recovery.

How Wrongful Death Claims Work in California

Wrongful death claims allow families to pursue financial recovery after a fatal crash. In California, close relatives such as spouses, children, or certain dependents may file the claim. These cases address the losses that surviving family members experience after a sudden death.

Compensation may include funeral expenses and lost financial support. Families may also seek recovery for loss of companionship and household contributions. Each case depends on the available evidence and the claimant’s relationship to the person who died.

A wrongful death attorney can examine the crash details and explain how California law applies to your case.
