Fountain Valley, CA (May 16, 2024) – Authorities confirmed on Thursday, May 16, that a car swerved into a bicycle lane in Fountain Valley over the weekend, struck a rider, and then fled the scene.
A 52-year-old man died as a result of the crash. According to Sgt. Brian Mosher, the victim was identified as Antonio Huerta, a resident of Huntington Beach, and officers stated he passed away at a hospital. Police discovered an injured Huerta on the south sidewalk of Slater just after 7:00 a.m. and said the incident occurred at the intersection of Salter Avenue and Santa Maria Street. The motorist who was struck and fled continued east on Slater. Anyone with knowledge about the case is urged to contact detectives as the police investigation remains ongoing.
