San Ysidro, CA (September 14, 2023) – A 21-year-old man from Escondido was detained on suspicion of DUI after a fatal car crash.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident took place at around 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday on northbound Interstate 805 near State Route 905 in San Ysidro. The suspected negligent driver was traveling in a Volkswagen coupe when he rear-ended a Honda SUV driven by a 58-year-old man from Tijuana. The Honda’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The first driver was brought to the hospital. The CHP verified that he was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving.
Anyone with information on the crash was urged to call the California Highway Patrol, per authorities.
