Bakersfield, CA (September 13, 2023) – A collision on Highway 99 on Sunday morning claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman from Bakersfield.
Around 5:15 a.m., the accident reportedly occurred in the northbound lanes of Highway 99, south of Sherwood Avenue, the California Highway Patrol stated. CHP troopers said that a 43-year-old driver was traveling 65 to 70 mph in the northbound second lane of the highway in her 2019 GMC.
The GMC’s driver couldn’t see a Chevrolet in the lane ahead of her, causing an accident that led to both cars swerving off the road and into the gravel shoulder after colliding.
The Chevrolet driver died from severe injuries received in the collision. EMTs assessed the GMC driver for injuries, but her current condition is unknown.
Alcohol and drug usage are considered possible causes of the accident, though the investigation is ongoing.
