San Diego, CA (November 12, 2024) – California Highway Patrol troopers are investigating after a wrong-way driver on Interstate 5 caused a fiery crash near Torrey Pines on Monday evening, November 12.
The crash was reported around 8:30 p.m., just after the freeway’s interchange with State Route 56. According to CHP logs, a driver traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes had collided with another vehicle and the retainer wall head-on.
At least one of the two vehicles involved then became engulfed in flames in the righthand lane of Interstate 5 northbound. However, no further details were released in the meantime, and it’s unclear how many were ultimately injured in the crash. Witnesses were asked to step forward as soon as possible.
