San Diego, CA – Passenger Critically Hurt in Crash on I-805 at Imperial Ave

San Diego, CA (May 5, 2025) – An 18-year-old woman suffered a serious head injury early Sunday morning, May 4, when the car she was riding in struck an electrical box near a freeway exit in San Diego’s Mountain View neighborhood, police said.

The crash happened around 2:35 a.m. when the driver of a Honda Accord heading south on Interstate 805 exited the freeway at Imperial Avenue and ran a red light at the end of the ramp, San Diego Police Officer Sarah Foster said in a statement.

The sedan, driven by a 21-year-old man, hopped a concrete and asphalt median and struck an electrical box on the other side of Imperial Avenue near an entrance ramp to I-805, Foster said. A woman who was a passenger in the car was not wearing her seatbelt and was thrown into the windshield, according to Foster. Medics took her to a hospital in critical condition with bleeding in her brain. However, the Traffic Division is still investigating the incident. We wish those hurt in this wreck a rapid recovery.
