Hollywood, CA (May 2, 2024) – According to authorities on Wednesday, a Los Angeles Police Department car was involved in a deadly collision in Hollywood and allegedly ran a red light but had its emergency lights activated when the incident took place.
A news release from the LAPD stated that the officer was on Gower Street, close to the intersection with Santa Monica Boulevard, when they “activated the vehicle’s emergency lights and proceeded through the intersection when traffic appeared clear,” setting off a chain-reaction crash that happened just before 4:00 p.m.
A Nissan Altima traveling west on Santa Monica first crashed into the LAPD cruiser, pushing it into a pedestrian using the designated crossing. A Mercedes-Benz traveling south on Gower and stopped at the light was also struck by the LAPD cruiser. Two victims were hospitalized, while the pedestrian was pronounced deceased after sustaining significant trauma. In the meantime, detectives are asking anybody with additional information on the accident to get in touch with them.
