Whittier, CA (July 21, 2024) – Five people were injured, two critically, after an apparent propane explosion and fire inside a food truck in Whittier.
According to the Los Angeles County Fire Department, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the 6700 block of Greenleaf Avenue at around 9:15 a.m. The food truck purportedly belongs to Lift, a popular coffee shop in the community that was operating out of the truck next to their brick-and-mortar storefront. Footage from the scene showed one woman on a stretcher with a bandaged leg and a man in an ambulance with his arms and hands wrapped in bandages.
The exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, but according to the county fire department, it appears to have been a propane explosion. It’s unclear if those injured were employees, customers, or a combination, though the Whittier Police Department is investigating the incident. We hope the injured victims make a timely and swift recovery.
