Santee, CA (October 8, 2023) – A sheriff’s officer confirmed that an 80-year-old woman perished in a residential fire on Sunday afternoon near Santee.
The incident occurred west of Santana High School, in a residential neighborhood, after a fire broke out in the garage of a house at 2:00 p.m. on Ashdale Lane. Sheriff’s Deputy Dan Wilson was told by a neighbor that flames and thick smoke were emanating from the home.
A resident who was waiting outside notified responding officers and firemen that his wife was still inside the house. Firefighters entered the house, pulled the woman out, and began doing CPR. According to Wilson, she was rushed to the hospital, but she later passed away.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated in the interim.
