Irvine, CA (October 9, 2023) – On Monday morning, several vehicles collided on the Santa Ana (5) Freeway near Irvine, killing at least one person.
At 3:50 a.m. on the Santa Ana Freeway northbound lanes, just south of Jamboree Road, a call came from the California Highway Patrol reporting an accident. According to eyewitnesses, five cars collided, and one of them caught fire, blocking three lanes and causing delays in the HOV lane.
At 4:10 a.m., all lanes heading north were put on SigAlert. At least one person was pronounced dead at the scene and several others were hurt, though identifying details about the victims were not provided.
An investigation remains active and ongoing in the interim.
