Oceanside, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run Crash on Mission Ave

Oceanside, CA (April 17, 2026) – A fatal hit-and-run crash claimed the life of a pedestrian early Thursday morning in Oceanside. The accident occurred around 5 a.m. on April 16, near Mission Avenue just east of Mesa Drive.

Police reported that a 76-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene. Emergency units responded, but the victim did not survive his injuries.

Officers later located the suspect vehicle, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma, in the 200 block of Los Arbolitos. Authorities detained a 24-year-old Oceanside man and took him into custody in connection with the crash.

Investigators said the driver may face charges including vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
