Los Angeles, CA (February 18, 2026) – A 50-year-old man died Sunday night, February 15, after a hit-and-run crash in South Los Angeles. The accident happened at about 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of South Western Avenue and West 82nd Street in the Manchester Square neighborhood.
Officers responded to reports of a pedestrian struck in the roadway. Police found Javier Tamayo, a Los Angeles resident, suffering from severe injuries. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
Detectives believe a tan GMC SUV with LED lights on the side running boards hit Tamayo and then fled. The vehicle was last seen heading east on 81st Street from Western Avenue.
Investigators continue to search for the suspect vehicle.
