Irvine, CA (August 25, 2024) – Two motorcyclists were killed in a crash early Sunday morning, August 25, on the 5 Freeway in Irvine, authorities said.
The crash occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on the northbound freeway at Culver Drive, where there was a report of a rider down in the middle lane, the California Highway Patrol reported. The CHP said at one point, there were around 50 motorcyclists at the scene, but only two were involved in the collision.
Paramedics pronounced a second person dead at the scene at 12:25 a.m. The motorcyclists were a 23-year-old man from West Covina and a 30-year-old man from Colton, according to the CHP. A SigAlert closing the northbound lanes for an unknown duration at 12:20 a.m. was canceled at 4:00 a.m. No further information was immediately available, but an investigation is still ongoing at this time.
