Poway, CA – Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash on SR-67 at Rio Maria Rd

Poway, CA (February 17, 2026) – A woman lost her life and another person suffered major injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Saturday night on State Route 67 in Poway. California Highway Patrol officers responded around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, to the intersection where Rio Maria Road meets Scripps Poway Parkway.

Investigators said a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 39-year-old man entered the intersection as a Honda Civic, driven by a 33-year-old San Diego man, made a left turn on a green light.

The SUV and sedan collided in the intersection. A woman riding as a passenger in the Honda suffered fatal injuries. Another female passenger sustained major injuries and went to a hospital, while the driver received treatment for minor injuries at the scene.

Officials said the Tahoe’s driver ran from the crash site on foot. Authorities arrested him on Sunday. Investigators continue to examine the collision.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family of the woman who lost her life.

Time Limits to File a Claim After a Fatal Crash in California

In California, families generally have two years from the date of death to file a wrongful death claim after a fatal crash. This deadline, known as the statute of limitations, can vary in limited situations. Acting within this time frame protects your right and ability to seek damages after the sudden loss of a loved one in an accident.

A wrongful death claim may include funeral costs, medical expenses, and loss of financial support. A wrongful death attorney can review the timeline, explain available options, and clarify what steps may apply.
