San Diego, CA (April 11, 2024) – A teenager killed in a head-on crash on Interstate 5 on Wednesday morning has been identified, and further details about the wreck have been released by officers.
Officials previously reported on the collision that happened around 3:20 a.m. Wednesday on southbound I-5. According to California Highway Patrol, a 67-year-old San Diego woman was believed to be driving a Honda Civic in the wrong direction before crashing into a Dodge Challenger driven by a 16-year-old boy from Imperial Beach. Two died at the scene from their injuries, per authorities, including the teen motorist. However, the current number of injured victims is unknown. An investigation proceeds in the interim, and authorities are now looking into the possibility of DUI.
