San Diego, CA (June 1, 2024) – A person was hospitalized Friday after a fire on the eighth floor at a residential high-rise building in East Village.
San Diego Fire-Rescue Department said crews responded at 5:20 a.m. Friday to a structure fire downtown at St. Teresa de Calcutta Villa, located at one 14th Street, in a residence on the eighth floor and they found heavy smoke inside the building. The alarm system was activated. SDFRD officials said residents of a couple of floors were evacuated. The fire was knocked down at 5:30 a.m. One person was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. No further details have been provided in the interim, however, and an investigation is still ongoing.
