San Diego, CA (July 7, 2024) – A 52-year-old bicyclist suffered fatal injuries when the victim was struck by a vehicle while riding on a rural highway in east San Diego County, authorities said.
The accident occurred around 3:50 p.m. on Friday, July 5, on State Route 67 north of Mapleview Street in Lakeside, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A 32-year-old Lakeside man was driving a silver 2021 Chevrolet Trax southbound on State Route 67 and crashed into the bicyclist while he was riding westbound across the highway, the CHP reported. The bicyclist was pronounced dead shortly thereafter. However, authorities said the investigation is ongoing to determine exactly what happened, and no further details were released.
