San Diego, CA (December 31, 2024) – An 11-year-old boy from El Cajon died over the weekend after being struck by a car, according to a news release by California Highway Patrol. CHP said on Saturday morning, at around 8:40 a.m., a 74-year-old man driving a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on North First Street, north of Sumner Avenue, struck the boy on the east side of the roadway.
The boy suffered major injuries and was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital, CHP said in the release. He was placed on life support but was taken off Sunday and succumbed to his injuries, authorities confirmed. However, the investigation is still ongoing. Drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor in the crash, however, according to the CHP.
