Los Angeles, CA (September 23, 2023) – The Arlington Apartments, an older structure with studio apartments in the Gaslamp District, were destroyed by a fire that required a second alarm early Saturday morning.
According to San Diego Fire-Rescue, the fire started at the front desk of the 89-unit complex at 701 7th Avenue at roughly 3:50 a.m.
The sheer scale of the structure necessitated the activation of a second alarm.
According to the fire department, no serious injuries were reported, though several residents were evaluated for smoke inhalation. Because of the flooding on the ground level, one person had to evacuate.
Firefighters believe lithium batteries may have started the flames, but an investigation is still ongoing.
