Bakersfield, CA (September 12, 2023) – According to troopers with the California Highway Patrol, a Bakersfield man was killed Monday after a crash involving a flatbed tow truck in the Kern River Valley.
The driver, a 68-year-old man, was reportedly towing a Mazda with passengers inside. He was driving south on Caliente Bodfish Road in a 2010 Kenworth tow truck. For unknown reasons, he lost control of the Kenworth, which flipped over at the scene and threw the Mazda off of the back.
The victim, who was reportedly trapped in his vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. The three adults on board sustained injuries and were transferred to Kern Medical.
Officers say that neither drugs nor alcohol were factors in the collision, though an investigation remains ongoing.
