San Diego, CA (October 23, 2024) – According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), a fatal crash on southbound Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton prompted a full roadway closure on Wednesday morning, October 23.
The incident occurred between Exit 62 (Las Pulgas) and Exit 54C (CR-521 Coast Highway) around 1:30 a.m. All lanes were closed for several hours as first responders worked the scene. Per a CHP SigAlert, the jaws of life, otherwise known as hydraulic rescue tools, were called to the crash site. A medical airlift helicopter and officials from the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office also arrived at the scene. No additional information has been released, but an investigation into the circumstances of the crash is still ongoing.
