Los Angeles, CA (December 6, 2023) – The I-5 freeway near Santa Fe Springs was closed due to a deadly collision that killed two passengers and was allegedly caused by a 19-year-old driver, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Calls about the collision were received by the CHP at 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A large rig was stopped on the side of the highway when it was struck by a Honda Accord just north of Carmenita Road, according to the CHP.
Two male passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, and the truck driver was taken to a local hospital. After being brought to UCI Medical Center, the suspected DUI driver was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. No further details were released in the meantime.
