Calimesa, CA (September 7, 2025) – A deadly crash involving a Riverside County Sheriff’s deputy claimed one life and left others injured in Calimesa on Saturday morning, September 6.
The collision happened around 10:03 a.m. at the intersection of Cherry Valley Boulevard and Roberts Street. Officials said the deputy was responding to a shooting call with lights and sirens activated when his vehicle entered the intersection and struck another car.
The driver of the second vehicle, identified as 21-year-old Gavin Hinkey of Cherry Valley, died at the scene. A 20-year-old passenger suffered major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The deputy sustained minor injuries and received medical treatment. Investigators said impairment did not appear to be a factor in the crash.
The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the circumstances of this tragic event.
