San Diego, CA (April 18, 2025) – Authorities on April 18 publicly identified a 66-year-old woman who was killed this week when the compact car she was driving was struck head-on by a vehicle traveling westbound on eastbound Interstate 8 near San Diego State University.
Greysi Rivas of El Cajon died at the scene of the wreck at about 3:00 a.m. on April 17, according to the county Medical Examiner’s Office. Emergency crews had to use heavy saws and prying equipment to free the other motorist from his crumpled BMW SUV, which had crashed down a roadside embankment after plowing into Rivas’ Mini Cooper sedan, the California Highway Patrol reported. The surviving driver, whose name has not been released, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hospitalized for treatment of serious injuries, officials said. We extend our sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased victim.
