San Diego, CA (October 23, 2023) – According to authorities, a man was killed in a multiple-vehicle collision on Interstate 5 on Sunday.
Troopers with the California Highway Patrol stated in a press statement on Monday that the accident happened at around 7:00 p.m. on I-5 northbound, just south of State Route 163.
Authorities say a Nissan Versa became disabled after colliding with a Nissan Altima on I-5 northbound, leaving the Versa parked between the left two lanes facing east with no lights on.
All four occupants of the Versa exited the car after the collision and stood on the roadway. Two people standing in the lanes were hurt when a white BMW 428i car smashed into the Versa.
One of the victims died at a nearby hospital after both were transferred there with life-threatening injuries, as verified by CHP.
For over two hours, emergency personnel blocked off northbound I-5 traffic while they investigated. The investigation is still ongoing at this time.
