Los Angeles, CA (January 12, 2024) – A woman who was hit by a car that was rear-ended by a police cruiser during a police pursuit in the South Bay is suffering from several broken ribs and bruising, her family said. A 66-year-old woman was walking in a crosswalk Thursday around 1:00 p.m. in the Harbor City area when a speeding Toyota Prius struck her.
Police cruisers pursued the vehicle when it slowed down near Vermont Avenue and Sepulveda Boulevard. While appearing to come to a stop, the Prius was rear-ended by a police cruiser, causing the vehicle to spin at the intersection and then hit the woman on the crosswalk. The woman sustained serious injuries but is expected to recover. The department is investigating the carjackings that led to the pursuits as well as an internal investigation looking into the actions of the officers that caused the crash. No further details were released in the meantime.
