El Cajon, CA (May 28, 2026) – Two Chula Vista residents died early Monday, May 25, after a Jeep veered off westbound Interstate 8 in El Cajon, rolled down an embankment, struck a tree, and caught fire. The wreck happened at approximately 3:27 a.m.
A 25-year-old man was driving a 2023 Jeep Wrangler with a 24-year-old woman as a passenger. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither had been publicly identified.
It is not clear yet what caused the diver to lose control. The investigation remains ongoing.
